HAVE A VOICE
VASE EA Members are eligible to vote in elections for officers and on ratification of the collective bargaining agreement, which provides you with your salary, benefits, and determines guidelines regarding working conditions.
As a VASE EA Member, you can serve on your local bargaining team, provide input into negotiations, and participate in local association meetings and social events. You can also hold office at the local, regional, state or national level.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
VASE EA Members are able to attend IEA or NEA trainings on special education, employment law, bargaining, legal issues, common core standards, evaluation, grievance processing, leadership development, and more!
Members are also able to access free IEA-sponsored online professional development and attend IEA or NEA conferences including the Summer Leadership Conference or One Conference.
LIABILITY INSURANCE
VASE EA Members are eligible for $1 million dollars in employment liability insurance if you are sued for events in the workplace. This benefit will pay for an attorney and any judgment against you, if your school district does not cover you through its insurance.
EMPLOYMENT ADVICE
VASE EA Members are eligible for advice and support from our IEA Uniserv Director regarding employment related statutory rights.

LEGAL FEES/COST ASSISTANCE
VASE EA Members are eligible for $35,000 reimbursement for legal fees/costs for the defense of criminal proceedings that arise out of your employment for allegations of corporal punishment or if exonerated regarding other criminal allegations.
LEGAL SERVICES
VASE EA Members are eligible for legal services to cover a variety of work-related situations, including:
If you are unlawfully laid off or your employer unlawfully fails to recall you
If you file for unemployment and are denied
If you are dismissed for alleged misconduct
If you are improperly denied tenure or are fired after you are tenured
If your teaching or professional license is suspended or revoked by your licensing agency
If there is a problem with your retirement system's determination of eligibility for retirement benefits
If there is a problem with your wages or hours you work and you need to file a claim with an administrative agency
If you receive an improper evaluation, are fired because of it, and want to challenge it in court or before an administrative agency
If DCFS investigates claims that you engaged in physical or sexual abuse or neglect of a student
